BY AGENT

Choose the right setup for your agent

Compare installation folders, explicit invocation and local versus remote environments before moving a Skill between agents.

The setup at a glance

Cursor~/.agents/skills.agents/skills or .cursor/skillsSkill picker or /skill-name

These are the recommended targets for this walkthrough, not a complete list of every legacy or managed location. Use the dedicated folder reference to troubleshoot another copy.

Switch agents deliberately

First check whether the destination agent already discovers the folder. When the same package is visible in both environments, you may not need another copy. Preserve the complete folder when moving it; scripts and references can be required by the instructions.

  • Check the installed version and target with HowAI CLI list.
  • Check the name in SKILL.md instead of assuming it equals the download slug.
  • Review dependencies and tool permissions in the destination environment.
  • Run a small task and compare the produced files after switching.

Local files and remote agents

A Skill on your laptop is not automatically present in a remote machine. Put a reviewed project copy in the repository or follow the agent's supported sync or deployment workflow. Review licenses before sharing a package with a team.

Choose by the work you need

QuestionWhy it matters
Does the task need local files? The working environment needs access to those files.
Does it render a video or export a deck?Check runtimes, browsers and output tools.
Does it use a connected service?Confirm the tool is available and authorized.
Is it a repeatable team process?Keep a reviewed version and test fixture in the project.

Agent support describes the intended environment. It does not guarantee that every output was reproduced in your setup. Continue with the guide for the agent you will actually run.
