Check the package is available
Open the Skill detail page and look for installation options. Preview only means that HowAI has no installable archive for that listing. A source description or preview image is not a substitute for the files.
The examples use Cobalt System Deck. Read the current requirements before using it. Downloading a public package is free; agent subscriptions and outside services remain separate.
Choose an installation method
Choose Install Skill on the Skill page, select With your agent, copy the prompt and paste it into your agent. The generated guide points at HowAI's installation endpoint.
Read https://howai.build/skills/cobalt-system-deck/install.md and follow the instructions to install the skill.Ask the agent to report the version and full target directory. If browser authorization is required, approve only the matching request you started. Installation should not run scripts bundled in the package.
Install Node.js 22 or newer, then copy the complete command for your agent. HowAI CLI is currently distributed from this site as a .tgz package.
npx --yes https://howai.build/cli/howai-cli-0.1.5.tgz install cobalt-system-deck --api https://howai.buildnpx --yes https://howai.build/cli/howai-cli-0.1.5.tgz install cobalt-system-deck --api https://howai.build --agent claude-codeExpect an Installed message containing the Skill name and version, followed by the target path. Do not replace the URL with an npm package name that has not been published.
Select Download ZIP, inspect the archive, and extract the complete folder into your agent's Skills directory. Keep any scripts, assets, references, licenses and attribution together.

SKILL.md
...supporting files...An extra folder layer can prevent discovery. Manual installations have no HowAI CLI receipt, so maintain them manually; the CLI will not overwrite an unmanaged directory.
Choose the right directory
| Agent | HowAI target | Option |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Code | ~/.claude/skills | --agent claude-code |
| Codex / Cursor | ~/.agents/skills | Default |
| Antigravity | ~/.gemini/config/skills | --agent antigravity |
| Custom or project scope | Absolute Skills parent directory | --target <absolute-path> |
For a single Claude Code project, run the following from your repository on macOS or Linux. On Windows, use the full Windows directory path for --target.
npx --yes https://howai.build/cli/howai-cli-0.1.5.tgz install cobalt-system-deck --api https://howai.build --target "$PWD/.claude/skills"Verify the installation
- 1
Inspect the path
SKILL.md must be directly inside the installed Skill folder. The agent may need the other files in that folder too.
- 2
Check discovery
Open your agent's Skill list or picker. Reload or start a new session if the new folder has not been discovered.
- 3
Run a small task
Select the Skill and supply its required inputs. Check proposed actions before execution.
- 4
Inspect output
Open the files it produced. Installation integrity does not prove that the generated result meets your brief.
npx --yes https://howai.build/cli/howai-cli-0.1.5.tgz list --api https://howai.build --agent claude-codeAccount access and download limits
Public packages do not require sign-in. For restricted packages, HowAI opens browser authorization when needed and checks the account's entitlement. Compare the browser code with the request in your terminal before approving it.
Signed-in accounts share a daily allowance of 50 different Skills across the website, CLI tokens and devices. It resets at 00:00 UTC. Repeating a Skill already downloaded that day does not consume another slot. On a limit error, wait for the reset time; switching tokens does not increase the allowance.
FAQ
No. Choose a listing with an actual installation package.
No. HowAI CLI verifies the archive and extracted files, then writes them into the chosen directory. Review the instructions before running the Skill in an agent.
HowAI's default ~/.agents/skills works for Codex and Cursor. Claude Code uses a separate target. Check agent-specific and remote-environment requirements rather than assuming a single folder covers everything.
